rivers galloping seawards. The Hôtel de Ville (town hall) fronting the square was
built in 1655 but given its present ornate facade in 1702.

in the 17th century. In the centre is an equestrian statue of Louis XIV .

1993 by renowned French architect Jean Nouvel, who added the striking semi-cyl-
indrical glass-domed roof.
