Lyon & the French Alps
The French Alps is a place of boundless natural beauty. Whether it's virgin snow in
Chamonix, the rhythm of boots on a lonely mountain pass, or the silence of a sum-
mer's morning as the first rays illuminate Mont Blanc, these colossal mountains offer
a symphony of unforgettable experiences. Needless to say, the Alps are a paradise
for hikers, bikers and wildlife spotters, but it's the epic pistes and après-ski that keep
people coming back year after year.
At the foothills of the Alps lies grand old Lyon, France's third-largest metropolis and
arguably its gastronomic capital. It's a place to savour, with Roman amphitheatres,
romantic parks and a delightful old town, but for many people nothing beats tucking
into some hearty Lyonnais dishes in a traditional city bouchon (small bistro) - old-
world atmosphere, checked tablecloths, clattering pans and all.
