landry is famous for its lavish landscaped gardens , which are at their blooming
best between April and October. Villandry is 17km southwest of Tours and 11km
northeast of Azay-le-Rideau.

visited château contains an amazing portrait gallery depicting 327 historical fig-
ures, including Christopher Columbus, Francis Drake, Cardinal Richelieu, Cath-
erine de Médicis and a host of French kings.

Mar, 9am-7pm Jul & Aug) Built in the 1460s, this classic medieval stronghold
comes complete with drawbridge, crenellated ramparts and watchtowers.
Langeais is 14km west of Villandry and about 31km southwest of Tours.

topped castle inspired Charles Perrault's classic fairy tale, La Belle au Bois Dor-
mant (Sleeping Beauty). It's also said to have been the model for the Disney
logo. Ussé is about 14km north of Chinon.
