1 REIMS
This great city is now just 45 minutes from Paris by TGV train. Walk on foot from
the station to the splendid cathedral (

) where the kings of France
were crowned for 600 years, and then to the even more beautiful Romanesque
Basilique St-Rémi (

). Reims has a fine range of places to eat and, for
me, one of France's best fish restaurants:
Le Foch
( 03 26 47 48 22;
www.lefoch.com
;
37 blvd Foch),
close to central place d'Erlon in the city heart.
2 LE MESNIL-SUR-OGER
Head for the village of Le Mesnil in the Côte des Blancs, the greatest Chardon-

( 03 26 57 53 86;

;
1
Grand Rue)
in the village centre and lunch afterwards at
Le Mesnil
( 03 26 57

;
2 rue Pasteur),
five minutes' walk away,
where Cedric the chef cooks monkfish beautifully - perfect with one of the fine,
fairly priced Champagnes on the list.
3 CHAMPAGNE PRODUCER
My favourite right now is
Veuve Fourny & Fils
( 03 26 52 16 30;

; rue du Mesnil, Vertus).
