Jardins de Claude Monet

Don't Miss
Giverny
The tiny country village of Giverny, 15km south of Les Andelys, is a place of pilgrimage for
devotees of Impressionism. Monet lived here from 1883 until his death in 1926 in a ram-
bling house surrounded by flower-filled gardens, which is now the immensely popular
Maison et Jardins de Claude Monet . Monet bought the Jardin d'Eau (Water Garden)
in 1895 and set about creating his trademark lily pond, as well as the famous Japanese
bridge (since rebuilt).
Giverny's other attraction is the Musée des Impressionismes Giverny . Surrounded
by beautiful gardens, this museum displays works by American Impressionists, who
flocked to France in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It's 100m down the road from
the Maison de Claude Monet.
