NORMAN HIGHLIGHTS
ROUEN TO MONT
ST-MICHEL
Start with a day exploring the old town of
(1) Rouen
, famous for its half-timbered
architecture and Joan of Arc connections (the Maid of Orleáns was burned at the
stake here in 1431). Factor in the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Cathédrale Notre
Dame, followed by a slap-up feed at Michelin-starred Gill and a night at Hôtel de
Bourgtheroulde.
On day two head west to
(2) Honfleur
for lunch at one of the busy quayside bis-
tros around the Vieux Bassin. Spend the afternoon at the
(3) Caen Mémorial
,
which documents the history of WWII in impressive fashion. In the early evening,
arrive in
(4) Bayeux
and check in to the Château de Bellefontaine.
Day three begins with a visit to the
(5) Bayeux Tapestry
, followed by an after-
noon tour around the
(6) D-Day beaches
. Detour via the massive cannons of
(7)
Longues-sur-Mer
and the
(8) Point du Hoc Ranger Memorial
before finishing up
at
(9) Omaha Beach
, where you can pay your respects at the American military
cemetery, which featured in the opening shots of
Saving Private Ryan
. If time al-
lows, continue to
(10) Mont St-Michel
for the start of our second tour.
