D-Day Sites
On 6 June 1944, six Allied divisions stormed ashore along the Norman coastline
during 'Operation Overlord', otherwise known as the D-Day Landings. Though ulti-
mately successful, the human cost of the invasion was immense; the Cimetière
Militaire Américain ( Click here ) above Omaha Beach is one of many memorials
dotted along the coastline. For the historical background, head for the fascinating
Caen Mémorial ( Click here ).
