this 18th-century residence display extraordinarily vital bronze and marble sculp-
tures by Rodin, including casts of some of his most celebrated works: The Hand of
God, The Burghers of Calais (Les Bourgeois de Calais), Cathedral, that perennial
crowd-pleaser The Thinker (Le Penseur) and the incomparable The Kiss (Le
Baiser) .

Monument, Musuem

( Varenne or La Tour Maubourg) A 500m-long expanse of lawn known as the Es-
planade des Invalides separates Faubourg St-Germain from the Eiffel Tower area.
At the southern end of the esplanade, laid out between 1704 and 1720, is the final
resting place of Napoleon, the man many French people consider to be the nation's
greatest hero.
