• » Shops Nearly everywhere shuts on Sunday and public holidays. Shops usually
close for lunch from noon to 2pm.
• » Restaurants Few serve all day; orders are generally taken between noon and
2pm and 7pm to 10.30pm, six days a week. Sunday evening and all day Monday
are popular days to close.
• » Driving in France Tolls are charged on many motorways (autoroutes) . Auto-
matic cars are very unusual in France.
• » Crowds Many sights are at their busiest in July and August, but this can be a
good time to visit Paris, as it's when most French people go on holiday.
