Master Painters
Las Meninas by Velázquez, Museo del Prado ( Click here ), Madrid
RICHARD NEBESKY
Spain's artistic tradition is arguably Europe's most distinguished, and its
big names read like a roll-call of Western art history's elite. Although
many Spanish artists deserve the term of 'master', we have restricted
ourselves to Spain's Big Four. The story begins with Diego Rodríguez de
Silva Velázquez and Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes, and 'ends' with
two of the towering artistic figures of the 20th century: Pablo Picasso and
Salvador Dalí.
