Train
The main station, Málaga-Renfe (Explanada de la Estación) , renamed the María
Zambrano in 2007, is round the corner from the bus station. The superfast AVE ser-
vice runs to Madrid (€76.40 to €85, 2½ hours, six daily).
Trains also go to Córdoba (€21 to €44, one hour, 10 daily), Seville (€19.10 to
€36.40, two to 2½ hours, five daily) and Barcelona (€62.70 to €138, two daily; the
cheaper train takes 13 hours, while the more expensive takes only half that). For
Granada (€15, 2½ hours) and Ronda (€9.75, 1½ hours minimum) you need to
change at Bobadilla.
Ronda
POP 37,000 / ELEV 744M
Stamped in infamy in chapter 10 of the novel For Whom the Bell Tolls, Ronda at-
tracts a predictable contingent of Ernest Hemingway buffs on the lookout for Papa-
once-got-sloshed-in-here bars. But it's a sideshow to the real deal: a yawning
chasm of a gorge, premier white-town status, and a bullfighting legacy enshrined in
the tale of two pugnacious families - the Romeros and the Ordóñezes.
