In-Depth Information
3 ZAHARA DE LA SIERRA
Topped by a crag with a ruined castle and near-perfect when viewed from across
the lake; just north of the Sierra de Grazalema.
Tarifa
POP 17,200
Marking the southernmost point of the Costa de la Luz, Tarifa's wind-lashed old
town retains the whiff of a Moroccan medina in its whitewashed maze, while its
beaches are to kitesurfers what the Bernabéu is to Real Madrid fanatics.
Sights
The nearby Strait's of Gibraltar is a top site for viewing whales and dolphins. Killer
whales visit in July and August, huge sperm and fin whales lurk here from spring to
autumn, and pilot whales and three types of dolphin stay all year. Whale watching
trips depart from Tarifa and cost €30/20 for over/under 14 years; special 3½-hour
killer-whale trips in July and August are around €40/25.
