Cathedral
(Plaza de la Catedral; adult/student €5/3, 7-8pm Tue-Fri & 11am-1pm Sun free;
10am-6.30pm Mon-Sat, 1.30-6.30pm Sun) Cádiz's yellow-domed cathedral is an im-
pressively proportioned baroque-cum-neoclassical construction, but by Spanish
standards very sober in its decoration. From a separate entrance on Plaza de la
Catedral, climb to the top of the Torre de Poniente (Western Tower; adult/child/
senior €4/3/3;
10am-6pm, to 8pm 15 Jun-15 Sep) for marvellous vistas.
PLAZA DE TOPETE & AROUND
A short walk northwest from the cathedral, this square is one of Cádiz's liveliest,
bright with flower stalls and adjoining the large, lively Mercado Central Offline map
Google map (Central Market). Nearby, the Torre Tavira Offline map Google map
(Calle Marqués del Real Tesoro 10; adult/student €4/3.30; 10am-6pm, to 8pm 15
Jun-15 Sep) is the highest of Cádiz's old watchtowers (in the 18th century the city
had no fewer than 160 of these, built so that citizens could observe the comings
and goings of ships without leaving home).
