In-Depth Information
(Calle Levíes 18; about 8pm-4am) During the day there is no indication that this
happening place is anything but a large garage. But, come after 8pm and this con-
verted coal yard in the Barrio de Santa Cruz reveals two large bars, and nightly live
flamenco (11pm and midnight) for no extra charge.
CASA ANSELMA
(Pagés de Corro 49; midnight to close, Mon-Sat) If you can squeeze in past the
forbidding form of Anselma (a celebrated Triana flamenco dancer) at the door you'll
quickly realise that anything can happen in here. Casa Anslema (beware: there's no
sign, just a doorway embellished with azulejos tiles) is the antithesis of a tourist fla-
menco tablao, with cheek-to-jowl crowds, thick cigarette smoke, zero amplification
and spontaneous outbreaks of dexterous dancing.

Bullfights
Fights at Seville's ancient, elegant, 14,000-seat Plaza de Toros de la Real Maes-
tranza (Paseo de Cristóbal Colón 12; www.realmaestranza.com ) are among the
biggest in Spain. The season runs from Easter Sunday to early October, with fights
every Sunday, usually at 7pm, and every day during the Feria de Abril and the week
before it.
From the start of the season until late June/early July, nearly all the fights are by
fully fledged matadors. Tickets are sold in advance at Empresa Pagés Offline map
Google map ( 954 50 13 82; Calle de Adriano 37) and from 4.30pm on fight days
at the bullring itself.
