Valencia & the Costa Blanca
In summer, Valencia and the Costa Blanca is Europe's holiday playground. And yet,
even as tourism at times threatens to overwhelm the region, the reasons for its pop-
ularity - a beautiful sun-drenched coastline with gorgeous beaches, charming vil-
lages and vibrant cities - remain intact.
Valencia is one of Spain's most engaging cities, filled as it is with monuments span-
ning the centuries and an increasingly avant-garde spirit. The birthplace of paella,
Valencia province also has some lovely villages along the coast and in its hilly hinter-
land.
Away to the south, Murcia province is one of the least-visited corners of Spain and
yet is home to absorbing sights, lively workaday towns and the sizzling Costa Cálida
(Hot Coast) with its steamy annual average of 3000 hours of sunshine. Explore
Murcia City with its splendid cathedral and Cartagena with its rich classical heritage.
