In-Depth Information
BUS The bus station is situated just off Paseo de Ezequiel González, near Avenida
de Fernández Ladreda. Buses run half-hourly to Segovia from Madrid's Paseo de la
Florida bus stop (€6.70, 1½ hours).
CAR & MOTORCYCLE Of the two main roads down to the AP6, which links Madrid
and Galicia, the N603 is the prettier. The alternative N110 cuts southwest across to
Ávila and northeast to the main Madrid-Burgos highway. The nearest underground
car park to the historic centre is in Plaza de la Artillería near the aqueduct.
TRAIN There are two options by train: up to nine normal trains run daily from Mad-
rid to Segovia (€6.50 one way, two hours), leaving you at the main train station
2.5km from the aqueduct. The faster option is the high-speed AVE (€9.90 one way,
35 minutes), which deposits you at the newer Segovia-Guiomar station, 5km from
the aqueduct.
Getting Around
BUS Bus 9 (€1, half-hourly, 10am to 1pm and 4.30pm to 7pm) does a circuit
through the old town from just outside the aqueduct, while bus 8 (€1, every 15
minutes, 6.45am to 9.45pm) connects Segovia-Guiomar station with just a stop out-
side the aqueduct.
Cuenca
POP 53,000
A World Heritage Site, Cuenca is one of Spain's most memorable cities, its old
centre a stage set of evocative medieval buildings. Most emblematic are the casas
colgadas (hanging houses), that cling to the deep gorges that surround the town.
