to stay. The rooms are designer cool with dazzling white furnishings and daring
wallpaper and they're not averse to the odd chandelier in the midst of all this mod-
ern chic. The bathrooms have hydromassage showers, and the views of the square
and basilica from the balconies in most rooms are simply stunning. They also have
a spa in the basement.

) It's difficult to believe the prices here. Centrally located, the rooms have a
designer feel and while some could be larger, the value is unimpeachable. In short,
it's a boutique hotel feel for hostal (budget hotel) prices.

) This small hotel has good rooms with a mix of styles from traditional and cosy
to pastel tones and a modern, classy look. Bookings are advisable. Breakfast costs
€7.50.
Eating
The tangle of lanes in El Tubo, immediately north of Plaza de España, are home to
one of Spain's richest gatherings of tapas bars. Other good areas to try include on
or close to Plaza de Santa Marta and towards the southern end of Calle Heroísmo
(located southeast of the city centre).
