L'HOSTAL
(Passeig; 10pm-5am Sun-Thu, 10pm-6am Fri & Sat Apr-Oct) Facing the beachfront
boulevard, this classic has live music on many nights (from midnight). One evening
in the 1970s, an effusive Dalí called L'Hostal the most beautiful place on earth. In-
side hang photos of the artist and hordes of other stars and starlets of times gone
by.

Getting There & Away
Sarfa buses to/from Barcelona (€21.35, 2¾ hours) leave twice daily (up to five daily
in July and August). Buses also run to/from Figueres (€4.80, one hour) up to seven
times daily (three in winter) via Castellò d'Empúries.

Twelve kilometres inland from the Golf de Roses, Figueres (Castilian: Figueras) is a
humdrum town with a single, unique and unmissable attraction: Salvador Dalí. In
the 1960s and '70s Dalí created here, in the town of his birth, the extraordinary
Teatre-Museu Dalí. Whatever your feelings about old Salvador, this is worth every
cent and minute you can spare.

MUSEU DE L'EMPORDÀ

bines Greek, Roman and medieval archaeological finds with a sizeable collection of
art, mainly by Catalan artists, but there are also some works on loan from the Prado
in Madrid. Admission is free with a Teatre-Museu Dalí ticket.
