In-Depth Information
star is Atomic Leda with Gala as the centrepiece, Dalí disguised as a swan, and
numerous mythological echoes.
2 THE WIND PALACE
The ceiling in this old foyer of the theatre on the 1st floor is full of Dalí's imagery
and iconography represented as a golden rain of money. We see Gala and Dalí
flying up to the centre of this Wind Palace, their burial ceremony, and Dalí and
Gala watching their own idyllic boat trip to a more spiritual dimension.
3 MONSTERS
Dalí's grotesque monsters are phantasmagoric beings that contemplate the
theatre-museum from the courtyard. Made up of everything from rocks and a
whale skeleton from Cape Creus to Figueres plane trees and gargoyles, the
monsters embody Dalí's dream to decorate by accumulating instead of selecting.
4 POETRY OF AMERICA ROOM
Apart from Dalí's 1943 masterpiece Poetry of America (also known as The Cos-
mic Athletes ) in this room, the delicate green-pen drawing The Argonauts is
worth a closer look to admire the almost imperceptible details of the foot of one
of the Argonauts: there are wings in his shoe with gold, rubies and emeralds.
5 MONUMENT TO FRANCESC PUJOLS
Welcoming visitors to the museum at the entrance, this monument to the Catalan
philosopher is based on a millenary olive tree and repository of the old feelings
of the Catalan people. Everything in the installation links past and tradition to
modern times. On top, an atom of hydrogen symbolises Dalí's trust in science.
