In-Depth Information
( www.marulacafe.com ; Carrer dels Escudellers 49; 11pm-5am Sun-Thu,
11pm-5.30am Fri & Sat; Liceu) A fantastic new find in the heart of the Barri Gòtic,
Marula will transport you to the 1970s and the best in funk and soul. James Brown
fans will think they've died and gone to heaven. It's not, however, a monothematic
place and occasionally the DJs slip in other tunes, from breakbeats to house.

Modernista Architecture
If you like Gaudí's Casa Batlló, you'll also like the following Modernista gems (including
some by Gaudí):
1 PALAU GÜELL
Offline map Google map ( www.palauguell.cat ; Carrer Nou de la Rambla 3-5) The
only major Modernista building in Ciutat Vella, it lacks some of Gaudí's later play-
fulness but is still a riot of styles (art nouveau, Gothic, Islamic) and materials.
2 COLÓNIA GÜELL
( www.coloniaguellbarcelona.com ) Apart from La Sagrada Família, this Utopian
textile-workers' complex was Gaudí's last grand project, outside Barcelona at
Santa Coloma de Cervelló; his main role was to erect the colony's church.
3 CASA LLEÓ MORERA
Offline map Google map ( Passeig de Gràcia 35) On the same block as Casa
Baltló, this house is swathed in art nouveau carving on the outside and has a
bright, tiled lobby; it's by master Catalan architect, Lluís Domènech i Montaner.
4 CASA AMATLLER
Offline map Google map ( www.amatller.org ; Passeig de Gràcia 41) Josep Puig i
Cadafalch's signature work has Gothic-style window frames and a stepped gable
with all sorts of unlikely sculptures and busts.
