tourist office.

Dia de Sant Joan
This is a colourful midsummer celebration on 24 June with bonfires, even in the
squares of L'Eixample, and fireworks marking the evening that precedes this holi-
day.

( www.festamajordegracia.org , in Catalan) This is a madcap local festival held in Grà-
cia around 15 August, with decorated streets, dancing and concerts.

Festes de la Mercè
( www.bcn.cat/merce ) The city's biggest party involves four days of concerts, dan-
cing, castellers (human-castle builders), a fireworks display synchronised with the
Montjuïc fountains, dances of giants on the Saturday, and correfocs - a parade of
fireworks-spitting dragons and devils from all over Catalonia, on the Sunday. The
festival is held around 24 September.
