In-Depth Information
The steps up from the entrance, which is guarded by a mosaic dragon-lizard,
lead to the
Sala Hipóstila
, a forest of 88 stone columns (some of them leaning at
an angle), intended as a market. On top of the Sala Hipóstila is a broad open
space; its highlight is the
Banc de Trencadís
, a tiled bench curving sinuously
around its perimeter and designed by Gaudí's right-hand man, Josep Maria Jujol
(1879-1949).
The spired house to the right is the
Casa-Museu Gaudí
(
www.casamuseugaudi.org
;
adult/senior & student €5.50/4.50;

,
where Gaudí lived for most of his last 20 years (1906-26).
