Pause for one of Barcelona's three traditional pastries - a
chocolate con churros
(deep-fried donuts dipped in thick chocolate),
melindro
(a small baked cake) or
ensaimada
(another sweet, baked pastry). The best places are the chocolaterías
along Carrer del Pi or, even better, Carrer dels Banys Nous, close to Plaça Sant
Josep Oriol in the Barri Gòtic.
5 A TAPAS DINNER
The best way to sample so many different recipes is to base your dinner around
tapas until your stomach says enough. You could stay the whole meal in one bar,
but most locals hop from one bar to the next, trying the various house specialit-
ies in each one.
