Eating Like a Local Don't Miss List
BY BEGO SANCHIS, OWNER OF COOK & TASTE COOKING SCHOOL
1 BREAKFAST IN MERCAT DE LA BOQUERIA
Mercat de la Boqueria is the largest of Barcelona's 40 markets and is an obligat-
ory stop for breakfast. Lose yourself in the passageways and let yourself be car-
ried along by the uproar of stallholders and buyers. But your visit is not complete
until you've finished with un desayuno de cuchara (breakfast eaten with a spoon
or fork) from one of the food stalls.
2 PRE-LUNCH SNACK
Stop for a light snack accompanied by a cava (sparkling wine) or vermut (ver-
mouth) - two local drinks of which Catalans are rightfully proud - at a sunny out-
door table. Where else in the world can you see elegant seƱoras enjoying their
bocadillo (filled roll) with a glass of sparkling wine before lunch?
3 LUNCH IN THE BARRIO OF FISHERMEN
Try a seafood rice dish in any bar in the Barrio de Pescadores (Barrio of Fisher-
men), otherwise known as La Barceloneta ( Click here ). Wander the streets,
study the various options and, above all, chose a place where there are far more
locals than tourists - this is the best guarantee of authenticity!
