they want to or not - are helping to fi nance the renewable energy plants. The burden
on the individual customer is therefore kept to a minimum. As a result of the renew-
able energy law in Germany, in 2008 the allocated extra costs of all renewable power
plants amounted to around 1.10 euros per month per person.
The German renewable energy law is the most successful instrument worldwide for
promoting the rapid development of renewable energy. It aims to involve everyone
equally in the social task of restructuring the energy sector - be it as investor, opera-
tor of renewable energy plants or fi nancier for the reimbursement of electricity from
existing plants.
