Y-Axis Rail Support - Part H
The Y-Axis Rail Support, or Part H, will require the use of two Simpson Strong-Tie metal straps (or
brackets), as seen in Figure 7-3. (Actually, you'll need to purchase a total of six of them. These are a
standard piece of hardware with standard thicknesses and holes drilled into the metal. Strong-Tie is the
brand, and you'll want to purchase the HRS12 version, which is 12” long and 1/8” thick.)
Figure 7-3. The Strong-Tie brackets will be used to mark and drill holes in Part H.
After marking Part H, go ahead and drill the four corner holes that will be used to hold a barrel nut.
The plans call for these holes to be drilled using a 7/16” bit, but we found that using a 13/32” bit
provided a more snug fit for the barrel nut. Either bit will work, but a 13/32” bit might not be in your bit
collection. Figure 7-4 shows Part H with the holes drilled for the barrel nuts.
