Cutting the Parts II
We're going to pick up right where we left off in Chapter 4. At this point, you should have a total of seven
pieces of your 3D printer cut out. These pieces are raw in form—just a specific length and width with no
special cuts or holes drilled yet.
In this chapter, we're going to finish up the cuts required for the remaining 10 pieces. When you're
done, you'll have 17 pieces of plywood, each ready for more detailed cuts and drilled holes. These will
make up the frame of your 3D printer. The electronics and other hardware (such as bolts or bearings)
will be added to form your machine and give it the ability to move. But that comes later; for now, let's get
to the last of the basic cuts you'll need to make.
Y-Axis Rail Support - Part H
The next part to cut out is the Y-Axis Rail Support. Its dimensions are 3-1/32” x 10-13/16” and it should
be labeled Part H.
Note Try to cut Part H as close to the exact dimensions as possible since the Upper Structural Sides (Parts F
and G) will be fastened to the ends of Part H and a bearing will ride very close to the top and bottom of Part H.
Figure 5-1 shows Part H cut out and labeled. It's a longer piece, so you may not be able to cut this
from any scrap from earlier cuts.
