Connect Extruder Motor Driver and Controller
The last bit of wiring you'll do in this chapter involves connecting the Extruder motor driver and the
Extruder controller to the motherboard. The motor driver will connect to the motherboard using the
familiar six-wire ribbon cable process you've already done for the X-, Y-, and Z-axis motor drivers. The
Extruder Controller will attach to the motherboard using the RS-485 cable (identical to an RJ-45 Ethernet
cable commonly found in any computer store) and requires no special tools.
First, start by raising the Z-axis by rotating the motor shaft coupling under the Z-axis motor mount
at the top of the machine. Raise it until the lead screw is almost flush with the bottom of the Z-axis Nut
Mount (Part N). Figure 17-15 shows the Z-axis raised.
