Remove the Strong-Tie brackets and drill the holes as specified in the building plans. The barrel nut
holes will be drilled using a 7/16” bit at the top of Part K. Also, don't forget to drill the two 1/4” holes on
the top edge of Part K for the bolts that will be screwed into the barrel nuts.
Drill the four 1/2” counterbore holes to a depth of 3/8” and then drill the remaining face holes using
a 5/32” bit to provide the holes that will be used to bolt the Strong-Tie brackets to Part K. Figure 9-18
shows Part K with all the drilling completed. (Note that we used a much larger bit than was specified in
the plans for the four highlighted holes in Figure 9-18—this will allow us to adjust the left Strong-Tie
bracket if necessary.)
