A short hop away from the metro station, you can take in some quality Basque tapas at the
bar any time of the day, or retire to the restaurant for a full meal, such as carpaccio de carn
amb formatge Idiazábal (beef carpaccio with a tangy Basque cheese). The owner is a dessert
specialist, so save some room. It's a rough-and-tumble-looking joint, but don't let that put
you off.
PRACTICAL TIP
RUTA DEL POBLE SEC
A group of tapas bars in and around thebarrio(district) organise the 'Poble Sec
Route', a suggested bar crawl in which each bar offers a special deal of a beer and a
tapa for €2 every Thursday.
DRINKING & NIGHTLIFE
A couple of curious bars in El Poble Sec (literally 'Dry Town'!) make a good
prelude to the clubs that hold sway up in the wonderfully weird fantasy world
of the Poble Espanyol. A couple of clubs on the lower end of Avinguda del
Paral·lel are worth seeking out too.
