With its grand ceiling and the scented gardens that surround the main terrace dining area, La
Balsa is one of the city's top dining experiences. The menu changes frequently and is a mix
of traditional Catalan and off-centre inventiveness. Lounge over a cocktail at the bar before
being ushered to your table.

A great place for a meal after visiting Tibidabo, El Asador de Aranda is set in a striking art
nouveau building, complete with stained-glass windows, Moorish-style brick arches and
elaborate ceilings. You'll find a fine assortment of tapas plates for sharing, though the speci-
ality is the meat (roast lamb, spare ribs, beef), beautifully prepared in a wood oven.

Many barcelonins have long claimed that Bar Tomàs is by far the best place in the city for
patatas bravas (potato chunks in a slightly spicy tomato sauce), prepared here with a special
variation on the traditional sauce. The place is a rough-edged bar, but that doesn't stop the
well-off citizens of Sarrià piling in, particularly for lunch on weekends.
