Nothing has changed for decades in this, one of the city's best-known
cava
bars. Plant your-
self at the bar or seek out a table against the decoratively tiled walls for a glass or three of
the cheap house
cava
and an assortment of tapas, such as the tangy
boquerons en vinagre
(fresh anchovies in vinegar).
BAR
MIRAMELINDO
A spacious tavern in a Gothic building, this remains a classic on Passeig del Born for mixed
drinks, while soft jazz and soul sounds float overhead. Try for a comfy seat at a table to-
wards the back before it fills to bursting. A couple of similarly barn-sized places line this
side of the
passeig
.

Although it sometimes hosts live acts in its sweaty, smoky basement, it's basically a
straightforward, subterranean nightclub offering rock, mainstream dance faves and Spanish
pop.
BAR
UPIAYWASI
12.30pm-2am Mon-Thu, 11am-3am Fri & Sat, 11am-1am Sun; Barceloneta)
Slide into this dimly lit bar, which crosses a chilled ambiance with Latin American music. A
mix of sofas and intimate table settings, chandeliers and muted decorative tones lend the
place a pleasingly conspiratorial feel. During the day most people will be found out on the
terrace.
