New Catalan Cuisine
3Barcelona's most celebrated chefs blend traditional Catalan recipes with new cooking tech-
niques to create deliciously inventive masterpieces. Leading the way are Albert Adrià, the
molecular gastronomy whiz behind Tickets, and Carles Abellan, who elevated the humble
tapas to high art in restaurants like Tapas 24. The result: Barcelona is fast becoming one of
the world's great culinary destinations. No matter where you go in the city, you won't be far
from a memorable meal. And the critics agree: the city has two dozen Michelin-starred res-
taurants.

La Catedral
4A masterpiece of Catalan Gothic architecture, La Catedral is rightly one of the first stops
on any visit to the Ciutat Vella (Old City). You can wander wide-eyed through the shadow-
filled interior, with a dozen well-concealed chapels, an eerie crypt and a curious garden-style
cloister that's home to 13 geese (which are deeply connected with the mythology of Bar-
celona's co-patron saint, Santa Eulàlia). Outside, there's always entertainment afoot, from
sardana dancing on weekends to periodic processions and open-air markets, and street musi-
cians are never far from the scene.
