BARCELONA PIPA CLUB
This pipe-smokers' club is like an apartment, with all sorts of interconnecting rooms and
knick-knacks - notably the pipes after which the place is named. Buzz at the door and head
two floors up. Note there's no longer any smoking here, though there is occasional live mu-
sic.

A drinking den that has undergone several transformations over the years now treats you to
the sounds of great Manchester bands, from Joy Division to Oasis, but probably not the Hol-
lies. It has a pleasing rough-and-tumble feel, with tables jammed in every which way.

During the week Karma plays good, mainstream indie music, while on weekends the DJs
spin anything from rock to disco. A golden oldie in Barcelona, tunnel-shaped Karma is
small and becomes quite tightly packed (claustrophobic for some) with a good-natured
crowd of locals and out-of-towners.

You simply won't believe this was once a tile-lined Andalucian flamenco musos' bar. Now
it is a dark dance space, of the kind where it is possible to sit at the bar, meet people around
you and then stand up for a bit of a shake to the DJ's electro and house offerings, all within
a couple of square metres.
