Outdoor music festivals make the most of stunning landscapes.
In Wyoming, Jackson's Off Square Theatre Company is a vibrant year-round company
founded in 1998, and Casper's Stage III offers six productions each year September-June. In
downtown Sheridan, the historic WYO Theater—which opened in 1929 as the Lotus—was
saved from demolition and refurbished, opening again in 1989 as a nonprofit organization.
Today it offers an array of musical concerts and theater productions that belie its small-town
setting. The University of Wyoming is home to one of the most outstanding undergraduate
theater programs in the country along with the University of Wyoming Fine Arts Studio,
where some of the region's finest facilities are located. Indirectly, Wyoming is probably
best known in the theater world as the setting for The Laramie Project, an award-winning
play depicting the reaction to the 1998 murder of gay University of Wyoming student Mat-
