The most appealing place to stay in the region is actually over the border near Dutch
John, Utah. The M Red Canyon Lodge (2450 W. Red Canyon Lodge, Dutch John, Utah,
435/889-3759, www.redcanyonlodge.com , cabins $115-155) has attractive and cozy cabins
with front porches perfect for enjoying the tranquil scenery. The resort offers excellent din-
ing with stunning views and daily wild-game specials, plus a host of activities that range
from horseback riding and mountain biking to boat trips and fishing tours.
CAMPING
The Rock Springs/Green River KOA (86 Foothill Blvd., Rock Springs, 307/362-3063,
www.koa.com ) is open year-round and offers tent sites ($31), RV sites ($34-42), and cabins
($62-127). The campground also has Wi-Fi, a swimming pool, a playground, and a variety
of games. Pets are permitted.
There is phenomenal public camping in the Flaming Gorge Recreation Area. Among the
favorites is the M Red Canyon Campground, which offers front-row seats for the area's

FOOD
For a relatively remote Wyoming town, Rock Springs has an impressive number of interna-
tional eateries, the origins of which date back to the town's population diversity. Siam King
Thai and Japanese Cuisine (1679 Sunset Dr., 307/382-7288, 11am-9:30pm Mon.-Thurs.,
11am-10pm Fri.-Sat., 11am-9:30pm Sun., $8-16) feeds the community's appetite for Asian
cuisine. In addition to Chinese and Thai specialties, the restaurant serves decent sushi.
For southwest Wyoming's favorite hamburgers, fries, and shakes, hit Grub's Drive
In (415 Paulson St., Rock Springs, 307/362-6634, Mon.-Fri. 6am-8pm, $6-12). It's not
healthy, and you may have to wait in a good-size line, but the shamrock burgers are juicy,
