Wyoming's capitol was modeled after the nation's capitol in Washington D.C.
SIGHTS
As a wonderful prelude to this historic city, jump on the Cheyenne Street Railway Trolley
(121 W. 15th St., 307/778-3133 or 800/426-5009, www.cheyennetrolley.com , tours 10am,
11:30am, 1pm, 2:30pm, and 4pm Mon.-Fri., 10am and 1:30pm Sat., 1:30pm Sun. early
May-Sept., $10 adults, $5 children 2-12), departing from the beautiful old rail depot. The
ride gives visitors a 90-minute narrated overview of the city, stopping by many of the best
sights including the Nelson Museum, State Museum, State Capitol, Botanic Gardens, Old
West Museum, and Governors' Mansion. Visitors are welcome to hop off and hop on the
next trolley, 90 minutes later.
Wyoming State Capitol
The cornerstone of the Wyoming state capitol (W. 24th St. and Capitol Ave., 307/
777-7220, 8am-5pm Mon.-Fri.) was laid on May 18, 1887, when Wyoming was still a ter-
ritory. Modeled after the capitol in Washington D.C., this National Historic Landmark went
through various phases of construction, the last being the addition of the senate and house
