American Heritage Center
Established in 1945, the American Heritage Center (2111 Willett Dr., 307/766-4114,
www.ahc.uwyo.edu , Mon.-Fri., hours vary, free) houses one of the most extensive nongov-
ernmental historical collections in the country. In addition to the manuscripts collections, a
rare book center has more than 55,000 items that date back to medieval times. Topics range
from the American West, an obvious and natural specialty, to British and American liter-
ature, natural history, conservation, women authors, and book arts, among countless oth-
ers. The center is open to the public and is utilized constantly by scholars from all over the
world. The center also hosts an array of fascinating events from lectures and symposia to
rare and important exhibits. The website offers viewers a meaningful look into the digital
collection, audio-visual collection, and virtual exhibits.
