In-Depth Information
Later in the summer, typically in early to mid-August, the Sheridan County Rodeo
(ww w.sherfair.com ) is held at the local fairgrounds. Less flashy than the Sheridan WYO
Rodeo, this old-school small-town rodeo showcases the abundant local talent the region is
known for. Events are open to adults and kids in more than two dozen events, including
roping, racing, pole bending, goat tying, and steer wrestling.
The Big West Arts Festival (800/913-9139, ext. 1234, www.bigwestartsfestival.com )
is a rapidly growing event; started in 2004, it ranks as one of the top 50 art festivals in the
country. It takes place the second weekend of August on the Sheridan College campus and
attracts traditional, contemporary, and even postmodern art. One of the festival's stated pur-
poses is not only to showcase Western art and artists but to bring the rest of the country's
art to the West. Admission to the event is free and includes live musical performances each
day.
