In-Depth Information
The Mint Bar is “where good friends meet.”
Although the site was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970, little was done
to protect the artifacts from the elements, livestock, and, rather unfortunately, disrespect-
ful visitors. Today the U.S. Forest Service (2013 Eastside 2nd St., Sheridan, 307/674-2600,
www.fs.usda.gov/bighorn ) is responsible for protecting and preserving the area, and Native
American guides have been hired to interpret the site for visitors. Driving to the site itself
is restricted, so plan to park at the ranger station and walk about 1.5 miles on a gravel road.
