FOOD
Although much of the state can be classified as meat and potatoes only, Cody leans toward
slightly more variety. For a great cup of coffee and a light breakfast of homemade pastries
and bagels (admittedly the homemade cinnamon rolls may not count as light), stop in-
to the Beta Coffeehouse (1132 12th St., 307/587-7707, 6am-6pm Mon.-Sat.). A favorite
community gathering spot, the Beta often hosts live music and open-mike nights. In the
winter, their homemade soups are beyond compare. Peter's Café & Bakery (1219 Sherid-
an Ave., 307/527-5040, www.peters-cafe.com , 7am-7pm Mon.-Sat.) is another great place
for a quick bite, whether breakfast, burgers, espresso, or ice cream. Daily soups, specials,
and desserts should not be missed.
A wonderful spot for lunch during the week is the Willow Fence Tea Room (1913
Stampede Ave., 307/587-0888, 11am-2pm Mon.-Fri.), which has wonderful teas,
homemade soups, sandwiches, salads, and sweets. It's like eating in your grandmother's
living room.
Known for their “spaghetti Western cuisine,” Adriano's Italian Restaurant (1244
Sheridan Ave., 307/527-7320, www.adrianositalianrestaurant.com , lunch and dinner daily,
$12-25) combines classic cowboy cuisine and Italian in fantastic ways. Try a carbonara bur-
ger or flatiron steak with linguine and alfredo sauce.
For Mexican food, nothing beats Zapata's (1362 Sheridan Ave., 307/527-7181,
ww w.zapatascody.com , $8-18), which serves outstanding New Mexico-style Mexican food
including fish tacos, snow crab enchiladas, and homemade salsas and sauces.
Open only in summer, The Cody Cattle Company (1910 Demaris St., 307/272-5770,
www.thecodycattlecompany.com , 5:30pm-8pm daily, dinner and show $26 adults, $21 chil-
dren 3-12) serves up a bountiful chuck-wagon dinner—including brisket, steak, potato,
beans, and more—and a live country music show. You can pair your dinner and a show with
tickets to the nightly rodeo, which is within walking distance, for the cowboy trifecta.
Among the best places for steak, ribs, and chops in town is the Rib & Chop House
(1367 Sheridan Ave., 307/527-7731, 11am-9pm Sun.-Thurs., 11am-10pm Fri.-Sat.,
$12-28), an excellent (and expanding) chain in Montana and Wyoming. From their buffalo
rib eye to their cedar plank salmon, the food is always great. Reservations are strongly sug-
gested.
Cody's best-kept culinary secret is likely M Geyser Brewing Co. (525 W. Yellowstone
Ave., 307/587-5868, 5pm-close Mon.-Sat. summer, 5pm-close Tues.-Sat. fall-spring,
$9-27), an American bistro with inventive creations like Reuben egg rolls, Irish pizza with
