ENTERTAINMENT AND EVENTS
The most popular event in Lander is their Pioneer Days festival. It takes place around the
Fourth of July and includes a parade, Indian dancing, a buffalo barbecue, fireworks, and a
nightly rodeo. The rodeo celebrated 120 years in 2014, making it the oldest paid rodeo in
the world.
A much younger but also entertaining event is the Lander Brew Fest (307/332-3892
or 800/433-0662, www.landerbrewfest.com ), which takes place in mid-June. More than 15
breweries from the Rocky Mountain region participate, allowing visitors to sample more
than 50 different types of beer while enjoying great music.
The International Climber's Festival (307/349-1561, www.climbersfestival.org ) is
held each July and attracts outdoor enthusiasts from around the world. There are lectures,
activities, social events, and a trade show. Visit the website to check which events require
tickets.
Lander is also a stop on the International Pedigree Stage Stop Dog Race (307/
734-1163, www.wyomingstagestop.org ), which takes place late January-early February.
Stop by the Lander Area Chamber of Commerce (160 N. 1st St., 307/332-3892
or 800/433-0662, www.landerchamber.org , 8am-5pm Mon.-Fri., 9am-2pm Sat. summer,
8am-5pm Mon.-Fri. fall-spring) to get more information or to buy tickets for any of the

RECREATION
Hiking and Rock Climbing
Known as the roof of Wyoming and the spine of the Rockies, the Wind River Range offers
phenomenal hiking and climbing from Lander. Among the trails accessible from the Loop
Road between Sinks Canyon State Park and South Pass City are the easy 7-mile Christina
Lake Tail, the easy-to-moderate 6.5-mile Louis Lake Trail, and the difficult 17-mile mul-
tiuse Shoshone Lake Trail.
For hiking that is somewhat closer to Lander, with scenery no less dramatic, Sinks
Canyon State Park offers six miles of easy-to-moderate trails in a figure-eight layout.
For expert guidance and equipment related to rock climbing, the best resource in
town is Wild Iris Mountain Sports (166 Main St., 307/332-4541 or 888/824-5968,
www.wildirisclimbing.com ) , named for one of the region's best-known climbing areas.
Another renowned spot for climbers is Sinks Canyon State Park.
