The major routes into Jackson Hole—including U.S. Highway 89/191/287 from Yellow-
stone and Grand Teton National Parks, U.S. Highway 26/287 from the east, Highway 22
from the west over Teton Pass, and U.S. Highway 189/191/89 from the south—can all ex-
perience weather closures in the winter, particularly over Teton Pass. There is no car traffic
in the southern portion of Yellowstone during the winter. For Wyoming road reports, call

Jackson is roughly 240 miles south of Bozeman, 177 miles southwest of Cody through
Yellowstone National Park, and 275 miles northeast of Salt Lake City. Keep in mind that
while distances through the national parks may be shorter in actual mileage, the time is of-
ten extended by lower speed limits, traffic congestion, and animal jams. In addition, most
of the park roads are closed in winter, and car travel is not possible between Bozeman and
Jackson or between Cody and Jackson. Driving distances around the parks increase signi-
ficantly.
