how gets the fish to bite. An artist by training, Bennett ties all his own flies and loves to
share. His full-day trips ($475-550) on the Snake, Salt, and Green Rivers include all equip-
ment, flies, transportation, streamside lunch, and full access to his unlimited knowledge and
expertise.
A great resource for fishing are the friendly folks at High Country Flies (50 E. Broad-
way, 307/733-7210 or 866/733-7210, www.highcountryflies.com , 9am-6pm Sun.-Thurs.,

perts on waters all over the region, and in addition to guiding services, the shop has a great
selection of flies, equipment, and clothing.
MM Rafting on the Snake River
One of the greatest attractions for summertime visitors to Jackson is rafting the Snake River.
There are close to two dozen rafting companies to choose from in the area, and most are
open mid-May-September. Below are a few options for those who are interested in experi-
encing the river, whether it be a tranquil day float through Grand Teton National Park or a
white-water adventure a little farther south in the canyon. Most adult fares average $65-75
for an eight-mile trip. A popular option, available with all three companies listed below, is
a trip that combines a float trip and white-water trip in the same day. These tend to be about
$90-95 per person (less for children). If booking a combination trip, confirm whether there
is a bus ride between the two trips or if it is continuous.
Barker-Ewing (800/448-4202, www.barker-ewing.com ) is a family-operated business
that has been running small trips for close to 50 years.
Dave Hansen Whitewater (800/732-6295, www.davehansenwhitewater.com ) has been
in the business since the late 1960s. Dave actually named two of the largest waves on the
river, the Lunch Box and the Big Kahuna.
Another option with a variety of trips down the Snake River is Mad River Boat Trips
(800/458-7328, www.mad-river.com ) .
For experienced floaters who want to tackle the Snake unguided, Rent-a-Raft (U.S. 89,
Hoback Jct., 13 miles south of Jackson, 307/733-2728, www.rentaraft.net ) offers 11-foot
and 16-foot rafts, sit-on-top kayaks, and shuttle service from their headquarters.
Hiking and Mountain Biking
Although plenty of hikers choose to hit the phenomenal trails in Grand Teton and Yellow-
stone National Parks, with so many mountains in every direction around Jackson there is no
