While bigger towns like Jackson and Cody are natural attractions in themselves, other
towns in the region, such as Pinedale, Thermopolis, and tiny Ten Sleep, offer an authentic
Wyoming experience with great museums, hot springs, historical monuments, and hole-in-
the-wall cafés. Though towns like Lander and Powell lack the glitz and pomp of Jackson
and Cody, they possess so much of what defines the state—rugged beauty, open space, rich
history, and unrivaled wilderness access. In Wyoming, the journey from one town to the
next is often the destination itself, and is by far the best way to appreciate this sparsely pop-
ulated state.
