families in different parts of Jackson Hole. The cabins come with 1-3 bedrooms; all have
modern amenities and are decorated with cozy Western charm.
The ranch is also the only concession in the park that is open during winter. During
the peak season (mid-June-Aug.), the minimum stay is one week (Sun.-Sun.). During the
spring and fall seasons, they require a minimum four-night stay but offer reduced rates, and
during the winter season visitors can book per night. All meals, served family-style in the
main lodge, are included in the price, as are the endless horseback rides, cookouts, square-
dancing, and special programs for children. Winter activities include cross-country skiing,
snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. Regardless of the season, there are always great oppor-
tunities for wildlife viewing.
Dornans Spur Ranch (307/733-2522, www.dornans.com , year-round) sits idyllically
on the Snake River in the middle of a wildflower meadow. There are stunning views in all
directions, and the location affords great access to fly-fishing and floating adventures. This
is a small, family-owned business that provides quality service with personal touches. There
are eight one-bedroom cabins ($185-215 summer, $125-150 fall-spring) and four two-bed-
room duplexes ($265 summer, $175 fall-spring) on the premises. The cabins were built in
the early 1990s and are bright, airy, and furnished with lodgepole pine furniture. They each
have queen beds, kitchens, living-dining areas, and covered porches with a barbecue grill
nearby. Also on these 10 acres of property are a grocery and camping store, two restaurants,
and an award-winning wine shop. Visitors can rent mountain bikes, canoes, and kayaks dur-
ing the summer and cross-country skis and snowshoes in the winter to make the most of the
surrounding area.
CAMPING
Gros Ventre (800/628-9988, early May-early Oct., $21) is among the largest campgrounds
in the park, situated at the southeast end just a few miles from Kelly. Booked on a first-
come, first-served basis, the 350 individual sites and five large group sites rarely fill com-
pletely. There is a grocery store and service station within two miles of the campground.
Each site has a fire pit and picnic table and can accommodate two tents, two vehicles, and
up to six people. Nearby bathrooms include flush toilets, but there are no shower facilities.
This is the closest park campground to Jackson.
