RECREATION
Hiking and Biking
Like most of Grand Teton National Park, there is an abundance of excellent hiking terrain
to be discovered between Moran and Moose, and many easy strolls can combine with his-
toric sites like the Cunningham Cabin, Menor's Ferry, and Mormon Row.
For more substantial hikes, try the Taggart Lake Trailhead, three miles northwest of
Moose. The trail is 3.2 miles round-trip with 410 feet of elevation gain. If that isn't enough,
continue on to Bradley Lake (4 miles round-trip with a 650-foot elevation gain) or Beaver
Creek. Three miles south of Moose is the Death Canyon Trailhead, not nearly as ominous
as the name would imply. The road is not suitable for trailers or RVs and is very rough for
vehicles in general. However, the hike to Phelps Lake is perfect for families, only 1.8 miles
round-trip with 420 feet of elevation gain. Black bears, moose, and marmots frequent the
area, so have your bear spray at the ready.
