The Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve Center is the first platinum-level LEED-certified
building constructed in a national park and was built to give visitors a sensory experience of
the natural elements found on the preserve. A poem by nature writer Terry Tempest Willi-
ams features prominently, and visitors can learn about the preserve and Rockefeller's beliefs
about land stewardship in a comfortable and environmentally sustainable building. Several
ranger programs, including sunrise hikes and children's programs, are available from the
center daily throughout summer.
Murie Center
The one-time STS Ranch and former residence of wilderness champions Olaus and Mardy
Murie, the

dedicated to connecting people and wilderness. It is where the Wilderness Act was authored
in the 1950s and early 1960s. The ranch itself is a National Historic Landmark and the site
of ongoing conservation seminars and educational workshops. On-site accommodations are
available to participants, and the entire facility can be rented for conservation education
programs. There is an excellent library and bookstore on-site, and rangers host naturalist
programs throughout the summer.
