In-Depth Information
Lake offers a moderate 6.4-mile round-trip hike around the lake though forest and meadow.
Emma Matilda Lake offers an even longer 9.1-mile hike, with fabulous Teton views from
the north shore ridge.
A nice area for visitors who travel with their bicycles is in the vicinity of Two Ocean
Road, southeast of Jackson Lake Lodge and northeast of Signal Mountain Lodge. The
road itself is just 3 miles long, but the scenery is sublime for a short, sweet ride. River
Road is 15 miles of gravel running along the west side of the Snake River between Signal
Mountain and Cottonwood Creek. Do remember that this is bear country and every precau-
tion—including bear spray—should be taken.
Horseback Riding
The Grand Teton Lodge Company (800/628-9988, www.gtlc.com ) can arrange one-hour
($45) or two-hour ($75) horseback tours that depart from Jackson Lake Lodge and can in-
clude trips to Emma Matilda Lake and an overlook of Oxbow Bend. All riders must be at
least eight years old.
