Jackson Lake Lodge and Signal Mountain
Its stunning setting, coupled with excellent amenities and access to fantastic hiking and
sightseeing in the park's northeastern corner, make Jackson Lake Lodge a vacation destina-
tion all its own. Though the lodge is not adjacent to Jackson Lake in the way that the Colter
Bay Village is, the views over the lake to the Tetons are magnificent. Nearby, the rustic Sig-
nal Mountain Lodge is situated immediately on the water, offering unlimited opportunities
for enjoying Jackson Lake and its proximity to wonderful hiking and adventuring.
SIGHTS
MM Oxbow Bend
Just southeast of Jackson Lake Lodge on the main road is Oxbow Bend, a picturesque river
area created when the Snake River carved a more southerly route. One of the most photo-
graphed areas in the park, the slow-moving water perfectly reflects towering Mount Moran.
The serenity of the area attracts an abundance of wildlife, including moose, beavers, and ot-
ters along with a vast number of birds. White pelicans can occasionally be spotted passing
through, as can sandhill cranes, majestic trumpeter swans, nesting great blue herons, and
bald eagles. Avid boaters like to paddle the area in their canoes and kayaks. Don't forget
your binoculars and your camera.
MM Signal Mountain
One mile south of Signal Mountain Lodge is the turnoff to Signal Mountain Road and one
of the greatest viewpoints in Grand Teton National Park. The winding five-mile road is
completely unsuitable for RVs and trailers. Along the way, there are ample spots for wild-
life viewing—look for moose in the pond on the right as you start up the road, and the pond
lilies blooming in June. There are two small parking lots near the summit. The first offers
the best view of the Tetons: Sunsets are sensational. From the second, a short walk takes
you down to an overlook with a view of Oxbow Bend. Visitors in August might even have
a chance to pick some succulent huckleberries as they ripen in the late-summer sun.
